2017 Beauty Favourites

And we’re back, with the second post of the week (Determined to post at least twice a week as I explained in my goals post that you can read here). Today I am talking to you about my top beauty products of this year!

img_1577

Lets start with skincare, my top favourite this year is the Garnier Cleansing Water, this is a classic from my collection and I don’t think I will ever not replace it. It works, lasts forever and doesn’t completely break the bank (ideal as I’m a student and therefore very broke haha). My second skincare favourite from this year is one I actually only got my hands on in December. The Caudalie Moisturising Sorbet was in my beauty advent calendar from ASOS, meaning I got a mini rather than full-sized version. This is a really good product and I’m sad I’m coming towards the end, I recommend this, but can’t guarantee I will repurchase it as the normal sized one is £23, and I have many other similar products to test over the next few months from other brands, this might not be accessible on a student budget.

This year, especially over the past few months, I have heavily reduced my use of foundation, meaning I’ve been more reliant on my concealers (side note- my skin has cleared up a lot since making this decision, it’s worth it). The L’Oréal True Match concealer has a smooth formulation and goes on really easily, without caking up. I find it really difficult to find decent concealers that work for me because I am so pale, and this one is almost perfect. As long as it’s not too over applied and layered, then it usually is even and works for my skin tone. Another favourite of this year is the L’Oréal Hydra Genius Aloe Water (I didn’t realise how many L’Oréal products I loved until I complied my list of favourites, although I decided to include them anyway- this post is not sponsored by them), which is a great combination product as a moisturiser and a primer. This is probably my most used skin product, as I genuinely think I’ve used it daily since purchased. The formula is amazing and makes make-up easier to apply over it, this could be a contributor to my better skin, as I dropped foundation and started using this around the same time.

Lip products are my favourites to discuss, and I struggled to decide which exactly were my favourites for this year as there are so many I love. The L’Oréal Belle lipstick was an obvious choice, I did a whole post on the range, which you can find here. This lipstick is amazing, the quality and pigmentation is fabulous. The shade was perfect for the run up to Christmas and I lived in this lipstick. If you can get your hands on these than I suggest you do, they are amazing! My other major favourite for this year is the Sleek lip cream, this was the perfect shade for summer, a lovely pink/nude colour. The shade is called ‘Birthday Suit’, it dries really quickly and lasts forever when on. My final lip favourite is the mint Carmex lip balm, this is a really recent find but I should have tried it way sooner… A classic lip balm and the mint just makes it even more perfect.

Still in my top faves is the Maybelline colossal go extreme volume mascara, this is genuinely the best mascara I have ever had as it just works wonders. This mascara means I don’t have to use multiple mascaras and my eyelashes are really voluminous. I really really recommend getting your hands on this one, it’s amazing and affordable and I always repurchase. The Ted Baker spray has been my absolute favourite this year, and I’ve purchased many other Ted Baker perfumes and other products from this line. It smells gorgeous, as do the others, and I think I’m going to give a full review in a post coming soon!

My final beauty favourite from this year is this eyeshadow brush, the Luxie 231. This was another one that came in my ASOS advent calendar and I’ve used it so much since it deserved a place in the top favourites. The bristles are really soft, and so far it has kept its shape well. A brilliant brush!

So that’s it, thanks for reading- head back on Thursday for another post!

2018 Goals

I’m sorry, rewind a bit- 2018? How on Earth have we reached the end of 2017 so quickly?

So 2017 was full of ups and downs for me, The first half of the year was a bit crap, if we’re being honest. My focus was entirely on exams and I just lost touch with life a little bit. Revision became my sole purpose and once my exams were over, I filled my time working to save money before uni, resulting in a super tired me working 50 hours a week. However, it wasn’t all bad and I’m ending the year on a high, looking forward to returning to uni in January. We all need some goals for the new year,  so here are mine!

  1. Make the most of every moment, and be completely in that place at that time. Just making the most of everything in the moment.
  2. I really want to attempt a digital detox, to not touch my phone, Ipad, laptop, EVERYTHING for a whole week and see if I can do it. I feel I’ve become too attached to my phone and that should change, (which may help reach goal number one).
  3. Read one book a week- I used to read so much but now that’s all changed because I feel I’m too busy. 52 books across the year, lets see if I can do it!
  4. Blog at least once a week for the whole year (I’d rather twice a week but lets make these goals realistic), I really want this blog to be regularly updated, so I’m making this a main goal.
  5. Go to the gym at least once a week, another weekly goal- looks like I’m going to be very busy! I just want to make sure my health is maintained and I keep fit.
  6. Make more time for friends and family, and make continuing to make more happy memories throughout the next year!
  7. Sort out my sleep- my sleeping pattern is all over the place and I really need to establish a proper sleeping pattern.

Thanks for reading, what are your goals? Comment below,

Uni Experience- Semester one

My Uni Experience ~ Semester 1

It’s official- I survived first semester!

***Applause***

In September, I experienced my biggest life change to date by going to university. As someone who loves home, I knew it would be difficult, but I still underestimated the extent of the change. Before uni I lived in Devon, which left me with little choice over what university to go for unless I was prepared to move further away, and my final decision was Oxford Brookes.

Moving to a new place was hard, but I love Oxford. The city itself is beautiful, and my campus is located just a 10 minute journey from the city centre. The place is amazing, although I wish it was closer to Devon so my journeys backwards and forwards are shorter. Oxford has a lovely mixture of old and new, which is lovely, and I can’t wait to actually have time to explore the city properly. (The snow was pretty spectacular I have to admit).

The first semester was hectic, between all the socialising, going out and actually having work to do, there was next to no time left. I’m doing English Literature, which basically means reading 24/7. I’ve had a lot more assignments than friends on other courses, but I’ve enjoyed doing the research and analysis even if it does mean I’m stuck in the library. This semester I’ve studied a range of topics, my favourite being world literature.

The start of the semester was rocky, I didn’t really know anyone yet and although I’d made friends, it didn’t feel like anyone was ‘close’. That all completely changed throughout the last couple of months, and the last month or so has been the best ones of my life, despite the high workload, because I’ve found the best friends and we literally talk for hours. We’ve had several evenings now where we meet planning to chat and drink and go home, and end up there until the late hours of the following morning, still chatting. It’s great that we enjoy going out out, out to a pub or staying in and chatting, meaning all our nights are different.

Thanks for reading, comment below your uni experiences!

Netflix Watchlist and Recommendations

John Frieda Go Blonder Review

My Netflix Watchlist & Recommendations

I, like many others, waste away hours on Netflix procrastinating from doing all the things I should be doing (essays spring to mind).

Recommendations:

Suits: I’ve wanted to start this for ages, but the amount of episodes have put me off, there are so many! This is a perfect show to binge watch if you’re willing to commit, with lots of twists and turns (and attractive guys in suits?) then this show is easy to fly through.

What We Did On Our Holiday: This is a family comedy film, and it is a very funny one! It stars David Tennant, and is a classic story, a family going away, while the parents pretend to be together, resulting in complete chaos!

The Office: I love this programme! The UK version is on Netflix and I’ve watched it multiple times. My favourite episode is actually the first one. I recommend!

The Lovepunch: This really is good, I actually watched it because Emma Thompson is in, but I really enjoyed it! A good movie

Watch List:

La La Land: THIS IS ON NETFLIX! I never actually saw this when it initially came out, and I sort of feel like it may have been over-hyped now? However, I have to watch it to make up my own mind, so that’s on my list!

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries: I’ve watched one episode of this and it is seriously good, I really want to get through the rest. Sherlock vibes and a powerful woman in what I think might be the 20’s? An amazing combination! I’d like to watch all of this!

The Circle: Doesn’t this just look amazing? Emma Watson and a thriller-dramary type programme? Definitely on my list!

That’s a wrap! Have you watched any of these or have any more recommendations? Comment your thoughts!

Beauty and the Beast Limited Edition Lipsticks Review

Beauty and the Beast is a classic, and it feels like forever since the remake was released. As a child, this Disney film was one of my favourites, so I was beyond excited to see the new version! After the live version was released, many brands brought out related make-up products, and I’m going to write about the L’Oréal lipsticks.

These lipsticks are only available on the Italian amazon site (as far as I’m aware), and L’Oréal have taken 7 of their classic shades and recreated them with some Disney sparkle. The line also had nail varnishes to match the lipsticks, and a variety of shades were covered. I have 3 of these lipsticks, which I will show you today.

IMG_4969.jpg

This first one is Plumette, and it is a gorgeous burgundy shade, perfect for the winter months. I purchased these ages ago, although I haven’t worn this one regularly until recently, as the shade is so dark. This lasts forever when it’s on, and is such a good quality lipstick. The packaging is also divine, it has an almost furry texture, although I have stained the white base of the lipstick by throwing it in my bag, other colours have now rubbed off on it which is a shame. Out of the 3, this one is my favourite, as it lasts the longest and is such a wearable shade.

IMG_4959.jpg

Lumiere, the world’s favourite candlestick! This lipstick is a lush nude colour, and before they arrived this was the one I was looking forward to the most! The packaging is gorgeous, as is the colour and the slight sparkle they’ve injected into the actual lipstick. However, I find with this one you need lots of layers to build up the colour, and it wears away quickly, meaning you have to reapply all the time. Even though I thought I’d wear this one the most, this hasn’t been the case! The packaging is great, but as a lipstick itself, I wouldn’t recommend it.

IMG_4960.jpg

My final lipstick to share with you all from this collection is Belle herself. I was surprised at how vibrant the shade was when it arrived, I thought it was a deeper red, but it’s a bright one! Like with the burgundy, this one has really good pigmentation and lasts a long time without wearing away. I would love to wear this more often, but the brightness puts me off of wearing it daily. It’s the perfect shade to wear if you want to make a statement and draw attraction to yourself, and it’s a great colour to wear on a night out. In the run up to Christmas, maybe I’ll get more use out of this one.

So there we are, the 3 lipsticks I chose from the Beauty and the Beast collection, I’d love to buy the others, most especially the rose one (a deeper red). If you’re willing to put your amazon account into Italian (I recommend finding someone later who can help you change it back- many many thanks to my bilingual friend) and you love Disney, then I really recommend trying one from this range. Pick a colour you reckon you’ll wear the most and take it from there!

Has anyone else got any of these? Tell me what you think of them in the comments!

Beauty Haul

So I went shopping this weekend (always a dangerous activity for my bank account) and I stopped off at Superdrug and picked up a few pieces. Here are the pieces I’ve bought!

It was only when I was writing my last post (you can see it here) that I realised that my eyeliner is wayyy out of date. I don’t wear eyeliner regularly because I’m a glasses wearer, which means taking them off to do my makeup (I don’t advise anyone attempts eyeliner without being able to see what they’re doing- it ends disastrously). Anyway because it’s out of date I picked up a new one, but I thought it would be fun to compare a REALLY cheap one (Primark) with one that I’ve seen many people recommend (Rimmel).

The collection eye crayon in ‘Vintage Blush’ is such a gorgeous colour. I picked it up simply because I couldn’t resist! I’m not sure how pigmented it will be or how long it will last but I’ll get back to you all!

Not going to say too much about these as they are simply repurchases! I mentioned these in my last post (here). Both of these are absolute essentials in my make up bag so I always repurchase once they’ve ran down!

These matte lip creams by Sleek are absolutely gorgeous colours! I have never tried anything from Sleek as it is not sold in my local stores, and I’ve always wanted to. I admit I have tried on if these, I just couldn’t wait! And since then I’ve been living in it. The nude colour (Birthday Suit) is my favourite, and the one that I’ve tried. It lasts a long time and dries really quickly, and once it’s on it doesn’t really smudge. The burgundy colour (Velvet Supper) is also gorgeous, but it is definitely a winter colour. I bought it because it was ‘buy one get another half price’, and they only had three colours there. The other was a vibrant red, and as I have so many reds I went for this one. I can just tell that the nude one will be my spring favourite!

This one I technically didn’t buy, it came in the magazines. I bought Elle because Emma Watson is featured, and I absolutely love her. With the magazine was this sample mascara by Benefit, and it’s not as good as I expected. Maybe my expectations were too high, but when I put it on I found it was really clumpy, and just left black blobs on my lashes. Perhaps this just this tube? Or maybe it was just the top and it will get better as I get further down? I’m not sure but I actually found my Rimmel mascara did just as good a job. At the moment, I’m not too fussed about buying the real thing.

So that’s it! Thank you for reading, pop back on Thursday for my next post 🙂

Everyday Drugstore Makeup Products

As a student, I don’t have endless money to spend on expensive make up, so I don’t own endless amounts of high end products. Here are my recommendations if you are on a budget like me. All prices are taken from the Superdrug website so they are all up to date at the time of posting.

Face

Primer is an important step all make up routines, and this one from Makeup Revolution is really good. It really preps my skin, evening it out and making it 100% ready. This one is great and only costs £5 making it a complete bargain!

The next step for me is concealer, and I use Collection Lasting Perfection. I’ve actually ran out of my current tube and haven’t replaced it yet (I’m dying inside) which is why it’s not in the photographs. The concealer is really good and I find it applies really easily, and as long as my skin isn’t in a really bad condition it doesn’t crease up too much! This costs £4.19.

For foundation I have been loving the Maybelline Super Stay. I find it really difficult to find foundations that don’t make me look like an orange as I’m really pale, and this is the best one so far. The product looks so messy in the photograph (oops!). It applies really well and is the perfect coverage that I need, not too heavy or light. I’d question whether it really DOES last 24 hours, but it is a great foundation. I’m near the end and if anyone as any recommendations for good foundations for people with pale skin, that would be really apprieciated. This is one of the more expensive products from this post, but still won’t break the bank too much costing £8.99.

The final stage for the face is setting powder, and I use Rimmel Stay Matte. This powder is really easy to apply, and works really well. Something I love is that the powder doesn’t crumble or break, as I’m sure we’ve all been in the situation before where our powder has been dropped and cracks, and then just goes absolutely everywhere! This costs £3.99.

Eyes

For eyeshadow I’m been using this make up palette from Makeup Revolution. The colours are all of my favourite eyeshadow shades, as I wear lots of browns and neutral colours. In the palette there is a mixture of matte and shimmery eyeshadow, but they are all highly pigmented and easily last all day. The only eyeshadow in the palette that isn’t great is the white, as for some reason this just isn’t pigmented and takes a long time to apply and build up. Luckily I have never had the need to wear white eyeshadow, and I just use it as a base for the other colours, in which it works well. This costs £4.

I rarely use eyeliner because I’m a glasses wearer, which makes applying it even more difficult than usual because I can’t actually see what I’m doing! When I wear contacts, I use this gel liner by Collection. I have to admit that I have only tried a couple of others, because I don’t wear it often, but it seems average quality to me. Only when I looked up the price did I earliest it ha sheen discontinued, so it’s obviously old and should be binned. If you have any eyeliner recommendations or techniques you use if you’re a glasses wearer, I would love to hear them!

As I don’t wear eyeliner, it’s really important to me to exaggerate my lashes. I use a mix of the Makeup Revolution Amazing Curve, and the Rimmel Wake me Up. I find that the different wand shapes mean that I get the best look possible, as the Rimmel lengthens my lashes and the other curls and shapes them. They both work well alone, but I do prefer to use them together. The Rimmel mascara costs £7.99, and the Makeup Revolution one costs £2.99 in store, but I can’t find it online!

Lips

This lipstick is my current favourite. It is a Maybelline Colour Sensational lipstick in shade 885, Midnight Merlot. It has been perfect over the winter as I love a berry colour more often. This lipstick is well pigmented and lasts all day, and I absolutely love it. I’m going to get a few more in other shades as the lipstick is just absolutely perfect. This lipstick costs £6.99 so is just the perfect price too!

So thank you for reading, if you’ve reached the end of this very long post. Thank you for reading and please follow so you see my next posts. If you have any product recommendations please leave the below!

Lifestyle Favourites

As you can see by my blog title, I’m an obsessive person. That’s not meant in a weird, creepy or stalky way, just that I throw everything into anything I like. With this is mind, here are some of the things I’ve been loving.

TV

Sherlock- Oh my goodness WHY have I not started this before? With everyone raving about how amazing the new series was, I thought I’d give it a try. After my friend insisted that I had to go back to the beginning and watch them all, I did, and it’s absolutely fantastic. I’m actually obsessed with it, it’s just so clever and I just love it! Since watching it, I’ve tried the original books, but they’re just too long and sadly didn’t hold my interest. I’m looking for other things like this, or with the actors in, so if you have any recommendations let me know in the comments. If you haven’t watched it, try it! The episodes are long which puts many people off but you won’t regret it.

Gilmore Girls- Another one that I’ve only just started, but it’s so good! There are so many episodes which put me off slightly but I’m slowly getting through them. I’ve heard it gets better as the series go on so I’m looking forward to that.

Books

Sarah Morgan-I’m aware that she is an author and not a book, but I couldn’t choose which one of hers to pick. I absolutely love her books and they just hook me completely. They’re all romantic books, but she varies the story lines all the same. The only slight negative (and it’s not even that bad) is that most of her books are based at Christmas. This is great around the holidays, but means you don’t get the same impression when you read them in the summer. I can’t pick a favourite out of her books, but I absolutely love her medical based ones. The Ebook versions of her books are quite cheap so I really suggest you try one!

Food

Mini Eggs- THEY’RE BACK! Whoooohoooo! I just love these so much. My love for mini eggs is greater than anything else.

So thank you for reading! Come back here on Thursday for a new post and follow so you get notified!

John Frieda Go Blonder Review

I’m a natural blonde, but a few months ago I decided I wanted to go lighter. I don’t like dying my hair, as it’s very thick and takes about 500 boxes of dye to achieve a good result. So I needed an alternative, and I decided to use a gradual change shampoo and conditioner.

I tried the John Frieda shampoo and conditioner, costing £6.99 each from Boots. These products worked miracles at the beginning. I washed my hair with it once or twice a week, and within 3 weeks there was a visible difference in the colour. Alongside this, I used the spray, which I would put on daily, also costing £6.99. All of these combined created really good results, and I’m really happy about the colour it gave me.

However, it does have its disadvantages. Perhaps it’s just me, but it was hard to get an even colour across all the strands of hair, probably because it’s so thick. It really exaggerates the difference between the new and base colour. Also, it did get to a point where my hair started to go yellow rather than blonde, but that is probably still down to me over applying in certain areas.

Now onto the spray, the only disadvantage to this is that it smells slightly vinegary, that is so not a word haha! I would actually say that this made more of a difference than the shampoo and conditioner as I used this everyday.

Overall, I’d recommend these products if you’re aiming to go a lighter shade of blonde. What products do you use? Have you got any recommendations?

February Goals

Wait what?? HOW on Earth is it February already?

Well actually, I’m so happy January is over, as it brought mock exams, bad weather and an overall average month for me. With that in mind, I’ve decided to set some goals for myself for February, to try and brighten up the year…

Workout- It feels so clichéd saying this, but really it is an important goal. We all slack over Christmas, and I know for me this continued into January as well. To quote Legally Blonde ‘Exercise gives you endorphins, and endorphins make you happy’. I think a positive outlook on life makes everything appear better, so this is only an added bonus. I really want to go for a run everyday, but as I’m sitting here now looking out the window while I write, the weather is reminding me that it’s not a good idea. Perhaps I should walk before I run, and take that saying quite literally and get out everyday, more than just walking to work.

Read Everyday- Although it is important to keep your body healthy, you have to stimulate your mind too. I’ve really struggled to get into a book so if you have any recommendations, leave them below in the comments, any genre!

Keep Updating my Blog- I’ve had many different blogs over the years and nothing has quite felt right. I’ve tried to follow the trends too much rather than just writing about what I want, which means the blog hasn’t been ‘me’. That’s why I’m starting afresh, with a whole new name, as a fresh start.

Have Me Time- I get so caught up in life, with work and college and everything else that I never take time to stop and relax. I’d like to take some time each day to do this, whether that’s a nice bath at the end of the day, or perhaps some time with a book, thinking back to goal 2.

Save Money- I am the absolute worst person for buying loads of random stuff I don’t need, and spend any free time I do have browsing (and buying) things online. I either send it all back which is just a waste of time, or keep lots of things I don’t wear or use, that just end up taking space I don’t have.

Declutter- Everything is going! No but seriously my wardrobe needs a huge sort out, and that is a necessity. I’m going to sort out a bag of stuff and take I to a charity shop, at least the I won’t feel guilty throwing anything away.

So that’s a wrap! Thank you for reading and I hope you return for next time. Posts every Monday and Thursday.

Courtney xx

P.S. Legally Blonde is a great film, 100% recommend it!
